‘The Best Phone Call I Received in My Life’: Dravid Reveals Who Stopped Him From Quitting in 2023

As Team India came out to the cheers and screams from the fans, they knew that it couldn't have been any better for them as a unit. To bring the World Cup glory back to the country was something the fans had been waiting for over a decade, and the dream has turned into a reality. But for Rahul Dravid, the moment is extra special as he achieved something in his final route for the Indian Cricket Team. Since he is all set to step down as the head coach, it is a moment that he will not forget. At the felicitation ceremony, Dravid recalled the phone call that changed everything for him.

Rahul Dravid opens up p the phone call which prompted him to stay 

As Team India came out at the Wankhede Stadium amidst screams and cheers, Rahul Dravid touched upon the time when he was all set to step down after the ODI World Cup Final after India lost to Australia. He revealed that skipper Rohit Sharma was the one who called him up and asked him to stay for some more time as until the next World Cup.

"I wasn't really sure, if I was going to continue after the 50 overs World Cup and obviously there was a great joy of having had a fantastic ODI World Cup, but also the disappointment of not crossing the line was there. For Rohit to pick up the phone to me and say Rahul lets have one more crack at it in 6 or eight months time. It will be lovely to have a crack together," Rahul Dravid revealed.

The India coach further added by saying, “I think that was the best phone call of my life (laughs).”
