‘The Day I Feel, I Will Leave’: Veteran Spinner R Ashwin Reflects Upon His Retirement From Cricket

R Ashwin was questioned regarding his retirement, and The spinner declared that he will retire from competition the day he feels he can no longer get better.

R Ashwin has been a stalwart in Indian Cricket as the spinner continues to dominate his division in the sport. The Team India veteran has been a part of the game for a long time and has emerged as one of the finest spin bowlers in the discipline. Ashwin recently opened up on his retirement plans, revealing the time and stage when he would ponder stepping down from the sport.

R Ashwin Divulges His Retirement Intentions, Says the Stage Where He Could Make the Decision

While speaking to Journalist Vimal Kumar, spin bowler R Ashwin was asked about his plan of action after he retires from the sport. The veteran spinner said that he doesn't has anything planned in mind. But Ash affirmed that the day he will feel that he is unable to improve anymore, he will step down from action and bid adieu to the sport.

"There is nothing like that in my mind. I am only thinking about one day at a time because when you get older, you have to put in extra effort every single day. It's not the same. I have put in a lot of effort in the last 3-4 years.

"I haven't decided (retirement), but the day I feel that today I don't want to improve, I will leave. That's all," Ashwin said.

R Ashwin is set to be in action for Team India as they begin their red-ball schedule and keep their case for the World Test Championship Final. The veteran spinner has been named in the official squad first Test match against Bangladesh , which will take place at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. The first test match will begin on September 19, 2024, at 09:30 AM IST.

The Indian Cricket Team have a test-heavy schedule lined up as they will also face New Zealand at home and Australia in an away series this year.
