- R Ashwin has balmed ICC over ODI rule change
ODI cricket has seen a lot of transformation in the last few years. The surge of T20 cricket has also influenced the limited over format to some extent as the number of ODI matches has also been reduced.
The Champions Trophy has returned after an eight-year hiatus. India's matches are being conducted in Dubai while the remaining tournament is being held in Pakistan across three venues in Karachi, Rawalpindi and Lahore.

R Ashwin Opens Up On ODI Cricket's Future
A number of new rules have been implemented in ODI cricket and the most prominent was the decision to introduce two balls during a match. Former Indian spinner R Ashwin gave a very honest verdict on the relevance of ODI cricket in modern days. On his Hindi YouTube channel 'Ash Ki Baat', Ashwin reiterated the fact that T20 cricket has managed to outshine ODI cricket.
"Before this Afghanistan versus England match, I was wondering whether there is any future for ODI cricket. Let's be very honest with it. In T20Is, there is so much crowd engagement, and consumption is high because it ends inside four hours. I feel Test cricket will excel more once the first-class structure of teams like Afghanistan improves."

R Ashwin Blames ODI Rule Change
Another rule was introduced, as now an extra fielder can be positioned inside the circle in overs 11-40. India have always relied on spin and have demolished teams on the home soil. Ashwin believes the rules have nullified the spinners' threat and it has been a major setback for India.
Ashwin further added, “But in ODIs, there is no contest. Until 2013-14, ODI cricket was played with one ball. Before 2015, the new rule was implemented where five fielders were allowed in the circle, and two balls were introduced. I think in many ways that rule was meant to nullify India's spin domination. That is just my take.”
India have made a good start in the Champions troophy having won their first two matches in the tournament. They will now face New Zealand in Dubai followed by the semifinal.
