'Umpires at fault too': Brad Hogg receives huge backlash for controversial opinion on Tom Curran

Sydney Sixers allrounder Tom Curran has been banned by Cricket Australia for violating the code of conduct during a Big Bash League game.

Sydney Sixers all-rounder Tom Curran is facing a four-match ban for intimidating an umpire in the Big Bash League. He has been charged with a level-3 offence as per Cricket Australia's code of conduct. The BBL side already confirmed that they would appeal the ban imposed by Cricket Australia.

Tom Curran has been banned by Cricket Australia

Curran was involved in an altercation with the umpire during the practice session as he was seen running on the pitch. Cricket Australia explained in a detailed statement why they banned the player for violating the code of conduct. 

A statement read, "The umpire took position next to the stumps, blocking Curran from approaching the pitch and gestured to Curran to move away from the pitch.
"Curran was seen in the footage gesturing to the umpire to move away from the pitch. Curran then attempted to perform a practice run-up and run at pace straight towards the umpire who stood in the bowling crease facing Curran. The umpire stepped to his right to avoid the risk of collision."

Brad Hogg faces backlash for backing Tom Curran

However former Australian spinner Brad Hogg extended his helping hand for Curran as he insisted the umpire also had his fault during the event. He posted on X, “Not Tom's brightest moment but the umpires at fault to, rather than walking closer to Tom in a non confrontational manner with a smile to de-escalate the situation he stood in an intimidating manner seeming looking for confrontation. #BBL2023”

He was quickly shut down by netizens who slammed him on social media.

Curran will be seen donning the RCB jersey in IPL next year.
