Virat Kohli fell short of converting his promising start into a substantial score during the first innings of the ongoing Boxing Day Test between India and South Africa on Tuesday. The renowned Indian batsman was dismissed after edging a delivery outside the off stump once again.

Virat Kohli's dismissal

At the time of his dismissal, Virat Kohli had accumulated 38 runs off 63 balls when he attempted a defensive shot against Kagiso Rabada on the final delivery of the 31st over. The ball moved away slightly, caught the outside edge of Kohli's bat, and was securely taken by wicketkeeper Kyle Verreyne.

This has been Kohli's biggest weakness while batting in Test cricket. He has been dismissed similarly several times in the red-ball format, especially in the last couple of years.

Rabada and Verreyne appealed confidently for a caught-behind, and the umpire promptly raised his finger, signaling Kohli's departure. Despite displaying an excellent touch, Kohli, who managed to hit four boundaries during his 38-run innings, was unable to extend his impressive form and lost his wicket in the 31st over of the innings.

India are currently struggling to find form at the SuperSport Park in Centurion. India have lost 7 wickets for 176 runs on the board. KL Rahul is still intact in the middle. Kagiso Rabada, on the other hand, has picked up a five-wicket haul in the match.
