Virat Kohli & Team India face terror threat, cops to beef up security

The Indian cricket team will be heading for the upcoming T20I series against Bangladesh under tight security after reports have emerged of them been under terror threat. The 'Men in Blue' are scheduled to play three T20Is against Bangladesh, the first of which will be played at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi on Sunday. The three-match series will be followed by two test matches.

Delhi T20I under terror threat

According to a leading online media portal, the Delhi Police have been asked to beef up the security of the Indian cricket team, who are scheduled to face Bangladesh in a T20 international at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on November 3, after the National Investigation Agency (NIA) received an anonymous letter which claimed that Team India, particularly captain Virat Kohli, were on a hit list of a terror organisation in South India

Prominent names on the hit list

Speaking to the portal, Delhi police sources said that the letter contains a list which also includes the names of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, President Ram Nath Kovind, Home Minister Amit Shah, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) stalwart Lal Krishna Advani, BJP working President JP Nadda and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat. The NIA has subsequently forwarded the letter to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

The portal also reported sources claiming that while the letter could be a hoax, no chances will be taken and security reviews of the match venue and individual players are being carried out.

Shakib Al Hasan gets banned 

The Bangladesh cricket team will be touring India without their Test and T20I captain Shakib-Al-Hasan, who was banned for two years on Tuesday after he pleaded guilty to three charges under the ICC Anti-Corruption Code. As per the decision announced on Tuesday evening, he will be able to resume international cricket on 29 October 2020, if he satisfies the conditions in respect of the suspended part of the sanction,
