Veteran Indian cricketer Virat Kohli is on the cusp of surpassing yet another significant milestone held by the legendary Sachin Tendulkar. Kohli, who has already eclipsed several records set by Tendulkar in the past, is once again closing in on a remarkable feat that will further cement his legacy as one of the greatest to have ever graced the game.

Virat Kohli on course to break another Sachin Tendulkar record

With 26,942 international runs to his name, Virat Kohli is just 58 runs shy of the monumental 27,000-run mark. Sachin Tendulkar, often hailed as the 'God of Cricket,' currently holds the record for being the fastest to this landmark, having reached it in 623 innings.

Virat Kohli , with 593 innings under his belt so far, has a golden opportunity to break this record. Should he achieve the milestone within his next eight innings, he will not only surpass Tendulkar but also become the first player in the history of the sport to cross the 27,000-run mark in fewer than 600 innings.

Apart from Sachin Tendulkar, only two other cricketing legends, Sri Lanka's Kumar Sangakkara and Australia's Ricky Ponting, have breached the 27,000-run barrier in international cricket. However, Kohli's potential to reach this milestone in record time would distinguish him from even these illustrious names.

Virat Kohli ’s next chance to achieve this historic feat will come during India's upcoming home Test series against Bangladesh , which begins on September 19. He has been included in the 16-member squad announced by the BCCI for the two-match series.

Kohli’s last appearance for India was during the three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka, which India lost 2-0. Prior to that, Kohli played a pivotal role in India's triumph at the T20 World Cup 2024. After a well-deserved break post the T20 World Cup victory, Kohli returned to the Indian side for the Sri Lankan series at the behest of newly appointed coach Gautam Gambhir . Following the series, Kohli took some time off to spend with his family in London but will now rejoin the Indian squad for the Bangladesh Tests.
