Wasim Jaffer Picks Uncapped India Pacers As Bumrah and Shami's Replacement In Border-Gavaskar Trophy
After the historic T20 World Cup triumph, Team India's biggest challenge comes in November, when they take on Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024: Rohit Sharma-led Team India will tour Australia for a five-match Test series later this year in November. India are the defending champions of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy and they will look to defend their title again with Gautam Gambhir at the helm of things. India have secured consecutive four Test series victories against Australia (2016, 2018, 2021 and 2023) and will want to repeat their heroics.
Former Australia captain and cricketer Ricky Ponting has already predicted that India will go down to Australia 3-1. This is the first time that the iconic BGT will be played across five-Test matches and Ponting feels that Australia might have a certain edge over India. When India last toured Australia, they defeated the hosts 2-1.
Wasim Jaffer Bats For Two Uncapped Indian Seamers
Batting is always considered tough in Australia. The pace and bounce that the surface generates makes conditions tough for the batsmen. India, over the past few years has emerged as a seam bowling powerhouse. The likes of Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammad Shami, Mohammed Siraj and others makes for a fearsome bowling unit.

But on the flip side, the Border-Gavaskar Trophy is indeed going to be a long series and it is extremely important to manage injuries and have proper replacements for India's pace trio. Former India opener Wasim Jaffer has advocated for the inclusion of Arshdeep Singh and Mayank Yadav in India's Test squad that will travel to Australia in the month of November.
'If Bumrah, Shami and Siraj stay fit and are able to play most of the series, India have a great opportunity for a hat-trick down under. Arshdeep could bring the left arm option. And Mayank Yadav dark horse provided he's fit and available', Jaffer said.
