WATCH: ICC unveils two mascots for 2023 ODI World Cup in India, gender equality wins

As excitement mounts with the approaching ICC Men's ODI World Cup 2023, the International Cricket Council (ICC) on Saturday unveiled its mascot duo for the prestigious tournament. Cricket fans across the globe are being invited to play a part in naming the event's mascots. In a ceremony held in Gurugram, India, the mascots were unveiled in the presence of Indian cricketers Yash Dhull and Shafali Verma, captains of the reigning U19 World Cup Champions.

The ICC has taken the wraps off its mascots for the upcoming Men's Cricket World Cup, slated to be held in India later this year. These mascots hail from a cricket-themed realm known as the Crictoverse, each embodying unique characteristics that symbolize both gender equality and diversity. This is probably the first time two mascots have been unveiled for a single sporting event.

“We are delighted to launch the ICC’s mascot duo ahead of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023. The perpetual characters signify cricket's universal appeal beyond cultures and boundaries with the mascots standing as beacons of unity and passion. With representation of both genders, they epitomize the vital role of gender equality in our dynamic world," ICC Head of Events Chris Tetley said in a statement.

ICC bats for 'gender equality'
The male character exudes a captivating blend of sub-zero coolness and electrifying batting prowess. His bat, which harnesses electromagnetic power, combined with his versatile range of shots, adds to the spectacle, infusing the crease with excitement and energy. The female character, on the other hand, possesses a turbo-powered arm capable of propelling fireballs at incredible speeds.
Fans have been granted a unique opportunity to contribute to the naming process, with the deadline set for August 27. The mascots' design was significantly influenced by fan input during earlier stages of development, through comprehensive surveys that played a pivotal role in shaping their appearance and characteristics.
