The wickets kept falling for the Lankans, with Ravindra Jadeja claiming his first scalp of the match, his 23rd in the history of Asia Cup. With this achievement, Jadeja now holds the record for the highest number of wickets by an Indian in the tournament, surpassing Irfan Pathan's 22 wickets. Sachin Tendulkar and Kuldeep Yadav follow closely with 17 wickets each. Jadeja showcased impressive spin control on a challenging pitch, extracting significant turn and subtle variations.
Earlier in the match, India had won the toss and chosen to bat first. Despite a promising start, the Indian batting lineup crumbled to spin, primarily due to the combined efforts of Dunith Wellalage and part-time spinner Charith Asalanka, who together claimed nine wickets. India were bundled up for 213 in 49.1 overs. Rohit Sharma once again stood out with the bat as he smashed a quickfire half-century.
