Things did not go down as expected for three-time IPL Champions Mumbai Indians on Sunday as they went down against Delhi Capitals by 37 runs in the opening encounter at the Wankhede stadium. On a brighter note, Yuvraj Singh put up a stellar performance as he scored a 35-ball 53 to keep Mumbai's hopes alive as their innings derailed while chasing a huge total of 214 runs. Yuvi's knock included five fours and three sixes at a strike rate of 141.43. He was supported by Krunal Pandya who played a cameo knock of a 15-ball 32. The 37-year-old all-rounder registered his 13th half-century as he made his debut for Mumbai Indians in style.
Even though Mumbai Indians ended up on the losing side, the owners of Mumbai Indians went on to award the badge of honour to the southpaw as well as Mitchell McClenaghan who was the pick of Mumbai bowlers as he had taken three wickets for 40 runs. The honours were pinned on the players' jerseys by Nita Ambani and they gave short speeches afterwards.

On Sunday, Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma had won the toss and put Delhi Capitals into bat. They got rid of youngster Prithvi Shaw early on for seven and even Shreyas Iyer could hardly make any impact as could manage only 16. However, Shikhar Dhawan (43) and Colin Ingram (47) stabilized the Delhi innings and when Ingram was dismissed the onus was on Rishabh Pant to bring things back on track for Delhi and he delivered more than what was expected from him by scoring a quickfire unbeaten 27-ball 78 which eventually went on to be a match-winning knock. His knock included seven fours and seven sixes at a strike rate of 288.89.
