Mohammed Shami, who is regarded as one of the best pacers in Indian cricket history, demonstrated his abilities during India's ODI World Cup campaign, helping the team all the way to the final, where Australia defeated them. Unfortunately, he was unable to play again due to a serious injury, which kept him out of Team India's winning 2024 T20 World Cup roster. Shami is anticipated to return in action soon as he is a key asset of the national team's bowling lineup even though he was not present for the victory over South Africa.

Mohammed Shami expresses his desire to lift the T20 World Cup in India

After seeing his colleagues just raise the World T20 trophy, team India star bowler Mohammed Shami revealed his dream to win the World Cup. The experienced fast bowler complimented the Indian squad on their extraordinary tournament patience.

When South Africa required 30 runs from 30 balls in the T20 World Cup 2024 final in Barbados, India seemed on certain death. But the Indian bowlers staged an amazing comeback, guaranteeing a seven-run triumph and thereby breaking an 11-year streak of absence for ICC medals.

Shami discussed his impressions on India's recent World Cup victory in a podcast interview with Shubhankar Mishra, Mohammed Shami said:

“I believe that whoever took part in that competition, whoever was part of the team, deserved to win it. If I’m unfit today and sitting at home, I can only watch the sport as a fan. Those players are my friends and colleagues, I can only let them know what I feel from the outside to help them play better. There isn’t much in our hands. As far as the winners' medal is concerned, I also dream of winning the World Cup.”

“I’d felt the same watching this World Cup. I was feeling the same watching it from the outside, as I was on the ground that day. In 2023, when we won 10 games in a row, all the teams were thinking how to beat India. When that happens, we should pray. When you make a mountain out of a molehill that sows doubts and overconfidence. I think the boys showed great patience this time around.”

Rohit Sharma's squad maintained a spotless record throughout the whole 2023 World Cup, other than the final match, where a strong Australian team emerged victorious and won the championship under the leadership of Pat Cummins. However, within a span of 6 months, India achieved a historic feat by being the first team to win the T20 World Cup with an unbeaten record.
