Virat Kohli asks Gautam Gambhir whether he thought about coaching India during his playing days

Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir talked coaching in a video posted on the BCCI's official website. Kohli discussed how they've progressed from teammates to discussing future positions. Kohli questioned Gambhir whether he ever considered being a coach in the future during his playing career. Gambhir praised Kohli's journey and recognised the honour of serving India, revealing that, although he had never considered coaching India before, he now views it as a means to continue contributing to the sport. Gautam Gambhir and Virat Kohli’s conversation:

Virat KohliGauti Bhai we have come a long way from playing together for a long time, me coming into the team when you guys were obviously established and you know that amazing dressing room that I became a part of ton playing a lot of cricket together to having our ups and downs.

Gautam Gambhir : But yeah everything in good spirit

Virat Kohli : Of course, firstly I wanted to ask you while playing would you have thought that you would be in this place in this role not only in India but in general did you have an intent to coach any point in your career?

Gautam Gambhir : First let me start with, we came a long way I saw you making your  debut saw you making that very important knock in Champions Trophy in South Africa  in a tricky wicket against West Indies and then playing probably the best One Day innings that has been played by an Indian and I have said it before not because you have been here in front of me. Not purely from a POV because guys have got double 100s as well when I talk about the best innings it is because of the quality of the opposition, the attack, the conditions, chasing 300+ against Pakistan , you’ve come a long way and you’ve done some really special things and most importantly the way you have taken Indian cricket forward is probably the legacy you’ve left for the next generation.

Now answering your question I never thought about coaching. I never thought about coaching India even couple of months back if you ask me. The reason I firstly it’s an absolute honour representing the country and coming back to the dressing room.

When you look at the challenge of winning the following Champions Trophy , T20 World Cup and the ODI World Cup . So obviously sometimes you want to challenge yourself and keep pushing yourself forward and that was one of the reasons why I thought I can contribute.
