IND vs SL: Gautam Gambhir is all set to start his tenure as the main man of Indian cricket, the Head Coach of Indian cricket. Gambhir is taking over from former Head Coach Rahul Dravid, who led the Indian team to their second T20 World Cup title. A lot is being expected out of India's Mr. Intense, Gautam Gambhir. Gautam Gambhir Sets His Priorities Clear
Ahead of Indian team's departure to Sri Lanka, both Gautam Gambhir and Head Coach Ajit Agarkar attended a press conference in which they addressed the team's plans for the next three years, especially the Sri Lanka tour. Gambhir will remain the team's head coach for the next three years and will have to oversee the team in five ICC tournaments. Apart from the Champion's Trophy next year, Team India will like to fancy their chances in the WTC Finals too.
India have played the WTC Finals twice, in 2021 and in 2023 but always ended on the wrong side of it. With the finals of World Test Championship scheduled to play next year, Gambhir has dropped subtle hints about the 10 Test matches that will be crucial to India's cause.
'Always been a challenge. After the Sri Lanka tour, we have got a month's break. And then we have got 10 Test matches. We have got the big tour of Australia coming up as well. I think that's what challenges are all about. Hopefully, we can do well in those Test matches. The chairman of selectors has already clarified that some of the players who missed out missed out because of the 10 Tests. Ravindra Jadeja, for example, is an important part of those Tests. Looking forward to those 10 Test matches.', said Gambhir in the press conference.
