West Indies batting legend Brian Lara has hailed the appointment of Kieron Pollard as the national team's ODI and T20I captain as a great decision. Talking to media persons at an event in Mumbai, Lara said that Pollard had good experience from playing all forms of cricket all over the world, which will help him become a good leader. Lara added that Pollard’s extensive experience would allow him to make the right decisions, even if it means making the tough calls at the same time. The former West Indies captain said that Pollard would have the support of the rest of the West Indies team, which would make his job as a captain all the more easier.
A former West Indies captain himself, Lara believes firmly that a captain is as good as his team. Pollard’s appointment was announced along with the announcement of the West Indies’ squads for their upcoming tour against Afghanistan, which is to be played in Dehradun.
This would have been a major setback for Malaysian cricket if this beautiful field was taken away from the young cricketers in Malaysia. Thank you for this positive decision.#kinraraoval#smartdecision#malaysiancricket#associate#mca#lovemalaysia pic.twitter.com/3cfsjUmlPT

Holder remains the Test captain
Meanwhile, Jason Holder will continue to lead the team in Test cricket. West Indies is currently ranked 8th in the Test rankings after their recent 0-2 loss to India. Lara did not shy away from calling out the WICB on the team’s Test debacle. He asked the board to focus on developing talent for Test cricket.
Lara said that West Indies started the year 2019 with a successful series at home against England but could not build momentum. He expects the WICB to respect the fact that modern-day players are victims of a demanding schedule throughout the year and has requested it to take adequate measures so that the quality of cricket does not suffer due to their commitments. The West Indies legend also emphasized on the importance of first-class cricket to help players improve their endurance and skills equally for the national teams to change its fortunes, especially in the longest format of the game.
