'What a talent': Kallis picks India star to be the 'breakout star' of ODI World Cup

The upcoming ODI World Cup 2023 will be very special for many Team India players like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Shubman Gill. On one end, Virat and Rohit could play the last major ICC tournament of their international careers and on the other hand, Gill will be making his ODI World Cup debut. Shubman is also regarded as the future and has all the potential to carry the legacy set up by Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma.

Former South Africa all-rounder Jacques Kallis has picked young Indian batter Shubman Gill as his favourite player and feels that he will be the 'breakout star' in the upcoming ODI World Cup 2023. Kallis has spent a lot of time with Gill in the IPL franchise Kolkata Knight Riders and predicted him to be the young player of the tournament to look out for. Speaking to ICC Jacques Kallis said: 

The young player of the World Cup will be Shubman Gill. What a talent, not much needs to be said about him except to think I enjoy watch him bat. One of my favourite players to watch. I was lucky enough to work with him at KKR, and seeing him develop. Looking forward to see him have a good World Cup.

Team India practices hard in Bengaluru ahead of the Asia Cup 2023 

Ahead of the upcoming Asia Cup 2023, the Indian cricket team under the leadership of head coach Rahul Dravid, has begun its practice at the Alur Cricket Ground. Big names such as Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Shubman Gill and more practised hard in the nets. The video of the Indian cricket team's practice session was uploaded by BCCI on their official social media handle. The Indian team is reportedly expected to fly to Sri Lanka ahead of the opening Asia Cup 2023 match against Pakistan on August 31, 2023.
