Recently attending a press conference for the introduction of the Kerala Cricket League, an event run by the Kerala Cricket Association (KCA), Sanju Samson, the holder of the 2024 T20 World Cup with Team India, A reporter asked him during the occasion regarding his being passed over for the Sri Lanka ODIs despite having made a century in his most recent ODI against South Africa.
Instead of complaining or trying to justify, Samson politely embraced the choice committee's ruling. He underlined that his main worry is the team's performance and clarified that he decided to concentrate on elements of life under his control. According to a video posted by a press conference attendee, Samson said:
“I will just go and play whenever they select it. That's it! End of the day, our team is doing well. I am the kind of person who believes in higher purpose. I just try to take things positively under controllable circumstances and put up the efforts.”
Samson's last ODI against South Africa at Boland Park had a significant innings when he scored 108 runs off 114 balls. India emerged victorious in the match by a margin of 78 runs, securing the series with a score of 2-1. Notwithstanding Samson's great performance, the selectors chose Rishabh Pant and KL Rahul instead of him for the latest tour of Sri Lanka. Given that India lost the ODI series to Sri Lanka by 2-0 after the first ODI match ended in a tie, India went on to lose the last 2 ODI games under the new head coach Gautam Gambhir.
