World Cup 2019 India vs Bangladesh LIVE: Fierce contest in store as Team India look to bounce back, cornered Tigers look keep hopes alive
Even though Virat Kohli & Co. hold the edge, one still cannot count the Bangladesh Tigers out. In the three World Cup appearances between both sides, India have registered two wins while Bangladesh have been successful on one occasion. In fact, it happened during their very first meeting in the quadrennial event in 2007. That loss hampered the spirits of India and they would go on to make a first-round exit a few days later.Â

Team India who were enjoying an undisputed run in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 suffered their first defeat against the hosts England by 31 runs on Sunday. India will now be up against a spirited Bangladesh side at Edgbaston in Birmingham on Tuesday. The two teams will be playing on a used wicket and it remains to be seen how they will be able to make good use of the conditions.
Despite the loss, India only need a solitary point to make it to the semifinals. They have won five of their seven matches and have 11 points in their tally as one against New Zealand was washed away due to rain. Even a washout will ensure their smooth passage into the last four. At the same time, Bangladesh will also be looking to win this match and keep their semifinal hopes alive. The Mashrafe Mortaza-led side are at the sixth spot in the points table with three wins and three losses and seven points in their tally. If Bangladesh do manage to stun India and Pakistan respectively, then they have all the possibility to qualify for their maiden World Cup semifinal.
That loss hampered the spirits of India and they would go on to make a first-round exit a few days later.
India have been one of the powerhouses of World Cricket for a long time now. They have won the World Cup twice and finished as the runners-up once. Meanwhile, Bangladesh have not had the luck of tasting a major success at global events. However, they have been making tremendous progress on the big stage since 2015. Mortaza and his boys reached the quarterfinals of the 2015 World Cup where the then World Champions India halted their progress. They then went on to finish as the semifinalists in ICC Champions Trophy 2017 where their successful campaign was ended by India. Bangladesh have also reached two consecutive Asia Cup finals in 2016 and 2018 respectively but again the Men In Blue shattered their dreams.
Keeping all the records and previous statistics apart, India are currently struggling as they head into the business end of the tournament. Their middle order has been vulnerable since the last three games especially, the one against England. Their last three outings have proved that if the top order fails, then the top-ranked ODI side struggle to get to a huge total. Apart from this issue, injury concerns have also been putting the Indian team in a spot of bother. Their dashing opener Shikhar Dhawan was ruled out of the competition due to a thumb fracture and young Rishabh Pant was roped in as a replacement. Pacer Bhuvaneshwar Kumar was ruled out for a few matches due to a hamstring niggle as Mohammed Shami got an opportunity to prove his potential which he did. The 29-year-old is now India's highest wicket-taker with 13 scalps in three games. The latest player to join this list is all-rounder Vijay Shankar whose World Cup hopes ended due to a toe injury.
While it is almost confirmed that India will be making it to the semis, they would also be looking to test their bench strength in their penultimate league game. If Bhuvi is fit, then India might go with three pacers and drop a spinner i.e. Yuzvendra Chahal after his poor outing against England or all-rounder Kedar Jadhav might make way for another all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja in the Playing XI.
