Team India earned their semifinal spot after a 28-run win over Bangladesh in their ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 clash at Edgbaston in Birmingham on Tuesday. The Men In Blue thus became the second team after reigning five-time World Champions Australia to book their place in the last four.

Indian skipper Virat Kohli won the toss and elected to bat first. India got off to a flying start as openers KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma put on 180 runs for the first wicket. The Hitman scored 104 in 92 deliveries After the two explosive openers were dismissed, it seemed that India had run out of steam as they lost skipper Virat Kohli and Hardik Pandya early. MS Dhoni (35)  and youngster Rishabh Pant (48) were then involved in a 40-run stand for the fifth wicket.

Bangladesh bowlers bowled a tight spell as India were restricted to 314/9 in their 50 overs. Mustafizur Rahman picked up a fifer. He finished with figures of 5/59 in his 10 overs.

After his dismissal, all-rounder Mohammad Saifuddin took the onus of taking his team over the line. He remained unbeaten on a 38-ball 51 as Jasprit Bumrah completed the formalities by picking up the last two wickets off consecutive deliveries. Bangladesh were bowled out for 286 with two overs to spare. This loss also meant that they were knocked out of the quadrennial event. Rohit Sharma was adjudged Man of the Match for his stellar knock.
