Eoin Morgan made a huge statement on Mohammed Shami
Former England captain Eoin Morgan has praised India's fast bowler Mohammed Shami for his huge impact on India's performance in the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2023. With the final against Australia set for Sunday, November 19, at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, Morgan emphasised Shami's remarkable control, identifying it as a praiseworthy element throughout the World Cup.
Morgan lauded Shami's ability to retain composure and effectiveness on the pitch. Notably, Shami has emerged as the World Cup 2023's best wicket-taker, with an excellent record of 23 wickets in six matches, bolstering India's strength and hopes in the event. Speaking on Sky Sports Cricket, Eoin Morgan said:
“I've faced him over the years, and you would have to say his level of accuracy he continues to produce brings a level of predictability, but also when you're channelling your focus in on doing one single thing it allows very little margin for error. The level of control he has shown throughout this tournament to move the ball off the seam and in the air has been great to admire,”
Morgan believes that Shami has added more strength to Team India
Continuing his assessment, Morgan stated that Shami's outstanding results in the 2023 World Cup have considerably increased India's strength. Shami's record-breaking performance against New Zealand in the semi-finals etched his mark in history by collecting the best-ever ODI stats by an Indian. Shami's incredible performance of taking seven wickets in that vital encounter highlighted his invaluable contribution to India's championship campaign. He added:
“Seven for 57 in a one-day international is unheard of, particularly in a World Cup knock-out game where there is a huge amount of pressure on him. He comes on, goes bang-bang, and all of a sudden has them back in the game and just does it with ease. To have someone like that at your disposal for Rohit Sharma adds more value to the strength of India,”
