India has successfully made it into the Super 8 after defeating the co-hosts, USA, at the contentious Nassau County tracks in New York. In another low-scoring affair, Team India looked jittery in terms of batting as the openers, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli went off rather cheaply. But the bowlers were able to do their part, and then Suryakumar Yadav led the charge for India's win. Rohit Sharma was particularly relieved to defeat the US and advance into the Super 8 stage of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024.

At Nassau County International Cricket Stadium, a two-paced, recently laid drop-in surface, Team India captain Rohit Sharma acknowledged that it wasn't easy to play, but the team had to persevere to win each of their three matches in the currently taking place T20 World Cup. The captain was more relieved than pleased that they had made it over the first obstacle of the global tournament.
“We knew it would be tough. Credit to us for the way we held our nerve and got that partnership. Credit to Surya and Dube for showing the maturity and taking us through.
“Being in the Super Eight is a big relief — playing cricket here wasn't easy (as) it could have been anyone’s game. We had to stick through till the end in all three games. We will take a lot of confidence from these wins,” Rohit said after the match.

The captain of India expressed gratitude to Shivam Dube and Arshdeep Singh, among other important performers. Additionally, he praises Suryakumar for modifying his aggressive strategy to anchor the pursuit.
“He (Suryakumar) showed he has a different game to him, that's what you expect from experienced players. Credit to the way he stuck through today to take the game deep and win it for us. We knew bowlers had to take the lead (as) run-scoring was difficult. All the bowlers did the job, particularly Arshdeep,” said Rohit after India qualified for Super Eight.
India achieved the most successful chase at New York, scoring 111/3 to offset the USA's 110/8, thanks in large part to the contributions of Shivam Dube (31), Arshdeep Singh (4/9) and Suryakumar Yadav (50*).
