IND vs BAN: Hathurusingha exhorts his team to draw motivation from recent shocks at the CWC 2023
In preparation for their match against India, Bangladesh's head coach, Chandika Hathurusingha, stated on Wednesday that his team is taking inspiration from the previous upsets in the ongoing ICC ODI World Cup.
The World Cup gathered momentum after Afghanistan upset England and Netherlands defeated South Africa. Bangladesh are keen to join in on the excitement by taking on the unbeaten Indian squad to gave the competition new energy.
When Bangladesh defeated India in the 2007 World Cup, it had a big influence on the world scene. In their succeeding confrontations, they came close, but in 2011, 2015, and 2019, they fell short against their Asian neighbours. But it's important to remember that in their past four ODI encounters, Bangladesh have defeated India three times, which should serve as motivation for their next game. Talking to the reporters, Chandika Hathurusingha said:
Because of what happened in the last week( in the game involving Afghanistan and Netherland) World Cup is really opening. We are all inspired by that,
We have six games to go, we still think we can win those games. That's the motivation and inspiration for tomorrow,
We had success in the recent past against India but it is a different ball game in the World Cup. We are hoping to have a complete performance. India, the in-form team in the World Cup, has a not-so-good game, and we play to our potential, it will serve us. We need to start well,
I can only ask my team to do 100 per cent and to give our best. I have no little control of the outcome after that. If we play to our potential, I think we can beat any team,
Bangladesh in the World Cup so far
Bangladesh won their first match of the competition against Afghanistan by 6 wickets and 92 balls left but failed to prevail in their next two games. England beat BAN by 137 runs, and New Zealand beat BAN by 8 wickets with 43 balls left. Beating Rohit Sharma’s informed side will be a tough challenge.
