After a convincing start to its ODI World Cup 2023 campaign, the Indian cricket team is all set to take on Pakistan in their third match of the tournament on October 14. The match will be played in front of the jam-packed Narendra Modi Stadium, which has a capacity of 1,35,000 spectators. Team India has never lost to Pakistan in the 50-over World Cup and will seek to continue the undefeated record in the much-awaited clash. The Pakistani team, on the other hand, are coming off with two wins against Netherlands and Sri Lanka.

Team India's total domination against Pakistan in the ODI World Cup 

The India vs Pakistan rivalry in the ODI World Cup began way back in the 1992 World Cup, and the last round of the high-profile rivalry was played back in 2019. Ahead of the upcoming IND vs PAK 2023 ODI World Cup match, take a look at some quick highlights of the CWC played between both teams.

1. 1992 World Cup, India won by 43 runs: In the 1992 World Cup, the Indian team, led by Mohammad Azharuddin, while batting first posted a total of 216/7 courtesy of a 54-run knock by young little master Sachin Tendulkar. In return, the Pakistani team could not chase down the given target and got bundled for 173 runs. Indian pacers Kapil Dev, Javagal Srinath and Manoj Prabhakar shined with the ball and took two wickets each. 

2. 1996 World Cup, India won by 39 runs: Both the teams were back on the same stage after a gap of four years, but this time the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru was the witness of the high-profile rivalry. India registered a huge score of 287/5 in the first as opener Navjot Singh Sidhu scored 93 off 115 balls. Chasing the target, the Pakistani team was going well as they chased down the target, but Indian pacer Venkatesh Prasad changed the whole momentum of the match after dismissing Pakistan batter Aamer Sohail. Pakistan, at last, finished their innings at 248/9 and lost the match by 39 runs.

3. 1999 World Cup, India won by 47 runs: India and Pakistan were up against each other in the 1999 World Cup, however, the Indian team was only able to score 227/6 while batting first. Though, the Pakistani team choked once again while chasing the target and was wrapped up for a score of 180 runs courtesy of a fifer from Javagal Srinath.

4. 2003 World Cup, India won by six wickets: The Indian team had to chase down a difficult target of 274 runs against a ruthless Pakistani pace attack of Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis and Shoaib Akhtar. However, India didn't face any difficulty in chasing down the target and Sachin Tendulkar played an innings of 98 runs and missed out on a well-deserved hundred. At last, it was India who won the match by six wickets.

5. 2011 World Cup, India won by 29 runs: After a gap of seven years India and Pakistan were against each other in an ODI World Cup match. In the semi-final played in Mohali, India was stopped for a score of 260/9 courtesy of a fifer from Pakistani pacer Wahab Riaz. Chasing down the target, the Indian bowlers won once again and Pakistan was bundled for 231 runs.

6. 2015 World Cup, India won by 76 runs: The Indian team, consisting of many new stars, took on Pakistan on Australian soil in the ODI World Cup for the first time after 1992. The Indian side put up a score of 300 runs, courtesy of a ton from Virat Kohli. Pakistan was not able to handle the scoreboard pressure and was bundled for 224 runs handing over Team India a 76-run win.

7. 2019 World Cup, India won by 89 runs: Indian team opener Rohit Sharma was in the form of his life during the 2019 ODI World Cup. Rohit continued his same form against Pakistan and played an innings of 140 runs. Pakistan was once again taken to the cleaners by the Indian bowlers and were only able to score 212/6.

The Indian cricket team have defeated the mighty Australian team in its first match by six wickets whereas on the other hand, Pakistan has played against lower-ranked teams such as the Netherlands and Sri Lanka.
