Former England captain Eoin Morgan has shared his thoughts on Team India's squad selection and their prospects for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024. Speaking on Sky Sports, Morgan expressed his belief that India is the “strongest side” in the competition and is well-positioned to end their ICC trophy drought under the leadership of Rohit Sharma and Rahul Dravid.

"Yeah, for me, the strongest side even with injuries throughout the tournament is India without doubt. The strength and depth is absolutely incredible at the moment and is almost probably we are talking about who the players that were missed out in the squad of 15 because of the quality of talent they possess. And you know they haven't won it since that first World Cup in 2007," Morgan said.

However, Eoin Morgan pointed out one major issue with India's squad selection: the omission of Shubman Gill. He felt that Gill should have been included over Yashasvi Jaiswal. Morgan has captained Shubman Gill at Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).

"The only decision I probably would have had differently if I was selecting this squad, I would add Shubman Gill over Yashasvi Jaiswal. A big call but I played alongside Shubman Gill and I know how he thinks, how he works. For me he is a future leader within that side and I think in big moments, in World Cups, you need more leaders. Even if he is sitting on the sidelines, you still need inspiration from here and there, you need that sense of positivity," Morgan concluded.

Eoin Morgan praised the quality of India's squad, highlighting their potential to outperform any team in the competition. "And again the things probably that we are talking about is that they are favourites for me. The quality they have on paper, if they produce it, they can beat anyone in the competition," he added.

He also expressed his satisfaction with the inclusion of Yuzvendra Chahal in the squad. "I am delighted, Yuzvendra Chahal is in the squad. People in the public and media were unsure about his selection. For me, he is an incredible bowler. He is one of the best wrist spinners in the world here and now and Kuldeep's form as well comes into it," Morgan noted.
