Harbhajan Singh makes a huge statement about ahead of the IND vs IRE match in the T20 World Cup

Harbhajan Singh feels that on Wednesday, June 5, when India plays Ireland in the opening match of the 2024 T20 World Cup in New York, veteran batter Virat Kohli and captain Rohit Sharma should start together. He hinted that Yashasvi Jaiswal, who is still young, would find it difficult on the difficult field.

With their wealth of experience, the former cricket player and current pundit said that Sharma and Kohli should bat first to lay a strong foundation for the remainder of the batting order. Speaking on his channel on YouTube, Harbhajan said:

“Batting is going to be difficult on this pitch. You need your big players in such situations and Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli should open. The platform that they can set, I feel it would be tough for Yashasvi Jaiswal to do the same in these conditions.”

"When I was in India, I said that spinners would play a big role in this T20 World Cup. However, after arriving here, I feel that while spinners will be useful, the fast bowlers will be in the game every single ball on this pitch. We saw what Anrich Nortje did in that spell. Even an ordinary bowler has looked threatening here."

"From what I have seen in India's warm-up match and the game between Sri Lanka and South Africa, there is a variable bounce on the pitch, making it difficult for batters to get set. Also, it is a sandy ground, which is why I feel a lot of players could feel some pain in their calves after one or two matches. The players will have to be very cautious while playing here,"

Harbhajan Singh also underlined how India's strongest suit in New York may be its quick bowlers. He brought up the outstanding performance of South African bowler Anrich Nortje, who had taken four wickets in their game against Sri Lanka. Harbhajan also talked about the need for players to play carefully in New York because of the high sand content, which increases the possibility of injury. After a few games at the location, he said, cricket players may feel pain in their calves.
