'I should have got...': Jos Buttler reveals his MAJOR BLUNDER that proved fatal for England vs India

India defeated England by 68 runs in a dramatic semi-final match of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024 at Providence Stadium. Jos Buttler highlights key mistakes that England made against India in the T20 World Cup
India soundly trounced defending champions England in the second T20 World Cup 2024 semifinal, with Rohit Sharma's side winning by 68 runs to go to their third straight ICC tournament final. In thinking back on his tactical choices, Jos Buttler admitted that he made strategic mistakes during the match.
With three wickets, Chris Jordan stood out among the bowlers as England took seven Indian wickets in the opening innings. England's captain Buttler chose spinners Liam Livingstone and Adil Rashid over Moeen Ali despite the pitch's favouring turn.
Three spinners were used by India, though: Kuldeep Yadav, Axar Patel, and Ravindra Jadeja. Axar, who Rohit Sharma brought in for the powerplay, claimed two wickets in the opening six overs. Jadeja finished up with 0 wickets, but Axar and Kuldeep both finished with three.
Buttler said during the post-game news conference about the choice not to employ Moeen Ali (via Cricbuzz):
“Obviously, they've got some fantastic spinners. Our two guys bowled well, but in hindsight, I should have brought Moeen [on] in that innings, with the way that the spin was playing. Obviously, with the rain around in those conditions, I probably didn't think it was going to change that much. And I actually don't think it really did. I thought they out-bowled us. They had an above-par score. So I don't think necessarily the toss was the difference between the teams.”
“A little bit of both. I thought they played well as well. I thought we bowled a little bit without luck in the power play, a few close calls there. But, yes, I think the benefit of hindsight and reflecting, I would have got Moeen [Ali] in the game of course. So, yes, bits and pieces here and there. Yeah, disappointing. I think we were outplayed by India. They fully deserved the victory. So, yeah, I thought they had an above-par score. I was hoping to restrict them to 145 - 150 probably on that pitch. It was always going to be a tough chase from there.”
In the ICC T20 World Cup India and South Africa, led by Aiden Markram, will now square off on Saturday, June 29.
