'If the captain is selfish...': Ex-India Player Blames Babar Azam for Pak's Horrible Show in T20 WC
Babar Azam is receiving immense flak over Pakistan's horrible run in T20 World Cup 2024. Pakistan bowed out of the competition in the group stage itself.
Pakistan had a dismal T20 World Cup 2024 campaign. Losing to minnows USA in the super over and then getting hammered by India when the target was only 120, left them humiliated and evicted from the competition. Babar Azam, who captained the team is receiving flak for his defensive captaincy and for letting his team down with risk-repulsive batting. As critics are going easy on Babar Azam, a former India player has added his say to the subject and labelled Azam as "selfish."

Parthiv Patel thinks Babar Azam was selfish while captaining Pakistan
Former India wicket-keeper batsman Parthiv Patel expressed his opinion on Pakistan's horror show in the recently concluded T20 World Cup 2024. Parthiv seconded what Pakistan legends Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis had already said. He defined Babar Azam putting himself at the top as an opener as a "selfish" act. Thereby, hinting that this outcome was bound to come as the captain did not keep the team's prospects first.
"Captain wanted to open, so he (Zaman) had to come down if the captain is a selfish player there's no chance. There is nothing new in it. Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis, everyone says that," Parthiv said during a talk show, a video clip from which went viral on social media.
Not following the template that T20 format demands
Parthiv also stated that Pakistan haven't evolved in the T20 format. They are still carrying the strike rate in the 120s when the prevalent game demands ferocious hitting in the 150-160 strike rate, according to Parthiv.
"They don't have players; they don't have T20 kind of players. The way cricket is going right now, we are talking about a strike rate of 150-160 and these guys are still in the 120s. They are far behind than any other international side," reckoned Parthiv.
