Babar Azam was left visibily frustrated after his Pakistan side suffered yet another collapse in the T20 World Cup 2024, this time against their eternal rivals India at the Nassau County Cricket Stadium in New York. The Pakistani skipper in his post match comments seemed to accept blame for his team's defeat against India.
After India's batting collapse in the first innings, Pakistan were chasing a total of just 120 runs in a must win encounter. Despite Babar Azam getting out in powerplay for just 13 runs in 10 balls, Pakistan were still in the driver's seat for majority of the chase.
With 7 overs to go, Pakistan needed run a ball. But some inspired bowling by Jasprit Bumrah and some horrific batting meltdown by Pakistani batters meant that the team stumbled in the end and lost by 6 runs.
This means that Pakistan have lost their first two matches in the T20 World Cup with an embarrassing loss to USA as well early on. Babar Azam addressed the media after what was another demoralising defeat for the men in green.

Babar Azam was pretty clear in his analysis of the game as he simply confirmed that Pakistan failed to cope with the pressure in the middle overs and left too much to do for tail enders.
"I think they bowled well after 10 overs. We were chasing 120, we were run a ball for the first 10 overs, but back to back wickets and then [we left too much in the end]. Tactics was simple, play normally, rotate strike, 5-6 an over. But in that period we had too many dot balls, the pressure was on us, and we lost three quick wickets. Can't expect too much from tail-enders,” said Babar Azam.
Babar Azam further took the blame for his team's failure as well as he said that the top order failed to do their job in the powerplay and left too much catching up to do for other batters.
“We were not up to the mark in the first six overs, we had targeted 40-45 runs, we have not capitalised properly. Pitch looked decent, ball coming nicely. Little bit slow, some balls are bouncing a bit more, but you expect it with a drop-in pitch," said Babar Azam.
Pakistan are now without any points after their first two games in the T20 World Cup 2024 and they are on the brink of an exit. They need to win their next two games and hope results fall in their favour.
"Obviously we have to win the last two matches. We will sit and discuss our mistakes but we are looking forward to the next two matches," Babar Azam concluded.
Pakistan will face Canada next in their group stage fixture at New York on Tuesday. Then they will finish their group stage matches with the last game against Ireland. They will need to win both their games and hope either of India or USA lose both theirs. The. The equation comes down to net run rate.
