During the 15th over of India vs USA ICC Men's T20 World Cup match, the umpire signaled that the Men in Blue were awarded five extra runs without the loss of any ball. The USA Cricket Team, who had the momentum railing towards them, saw a sudden shift as they were penalized due to a delay caused by the co-hosts. The Aaron Jones-led side took more than a minute to start an over, and it happened thrice. As a result, the umpire gave them a heavy price and it allowed Team India to steal the momentum.
At that stage, Team India needed 35 runs off 30 balls, but the addition of five runs without the loss of a ball gave the visiting side an edge. It is the first time when any team was docked five runs for delaying the start of an over, and the US did it thrice in the same match-up.
