Rohit Sharma made a huge statement on the pollution in Mumbai
Ahead of Thursday, November 2, 2023, World Cup match between India and Sri Lanka at the historic Wankhede Stadium, the captain of the Indian cricket team, Rohit Sharma, sent a strong warning about the city of Mumbai's pollution problems. Rohit highlighted how important it is to pave a better way for future generations.
In the middle of the city's present problems, especially in the run-up to the holiday season, Rohit freely discussed the topic in an honest demonstration of his dedication to this cause. He expressed hope for a society free from terror, one in which his own daughter and future generations may live. In a pre-match press conference, he said:
"In an ideal world, we do not want a situation like this. I am pretty sure the concerned authorities are taking action to avoid situations like this. It's not ideal; everyone knows that. Looking at the future generations -your kids and my kids it's quite important they get to live without fear. When we are not discussing cricket, I always talk about this. We have to look after our future generations,"
This declaration comes after Rohit uploaded a photograph during his flight from Lucknow to Mumbai on his Instagram account a day earlier. He called attention to the dense haze engulfing the city in the picture. 'Mumbai, ye kya hogaya' (Mumbai, what has occurred) was Rohit's caption on the post.
Air Quality Index of Mumbai
Mumbai's Air Quality Index (AQI) declined significantly in October, with certain parts of the city recording AQI values higher than 300. Mumbai is the seventh most populated city in the world, according to a recent Swiss Air Monitor IQ Air assessment, with Delhi and Kolkata coming in at fourth and tenth, respectively.
Jay Shah, the secretary of the BCCI, announced earlier today that there won't be any fireworks in Mumbai during the India-Sri Lanka game. The decision stems from a common worry about the deteriorating quality of the city's air. The last game in Delhi, where Sri Lanka will play Bangladesh on November 6, has also been subject to similar preparations.
