MS Dhoni overthrown by Rohit Sharma! Shatters record to become India's most successful T20I skipper
As Rohit Sharma broke records in the T20 World Cup match vs Ireland, he has officially dethroned MS Dhoni to become India's most successful T20I skipper.
Team India arrived in the United States with the goal of resuming their winning ways and breaking their long-standing title drought as they prepare to compete in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024. The Rohit Sharma-led Men in Blue trounced Ireland in their group stage opener by easily chasing the allotted total. Rohit Sharma was named man of the match after smashing through and scoring a captain's knock in the first group-stage encounter against Ireland. He not only paved the way for India's victory, but he also made history and smashed multiple records, surpassing the guy who had done it best: MS Dhoni.

Rohit Sharma edges MS Dhoni, becomes India's most successful T20I skipper
Rohit Sharma was an absolute raptor at the Nassau County Stadium after he became the first and only man so far to score 50+ runs at the virgin Nassau County pitch, in what has been offering a slow track, Rohit powered through and heavily assisted on India's win. After Rishabh Pant scored the winning six, Rohit Sharma officially dethroned MS Dhoni to become the most successful Indian captain in the T20I format. Rohit officially has 42 T20I wins as a skipper, which eclipses MS Dhoni's 41 win count, excluding the super over wins. Rohit's 77.29 win percentage is significantly higher than Dhoni's, which stands at 59.28.
In international cricket, Rohit Sharma became the first player to hit 600 sixes. After just 427 games, the Indian captain's six total stands at 600 at this point. Chris Gayle's 553 sixes in 483 matches) and Shahid Afridi's 476 sixes in 524 matches are behind him in the score standings. In T20Is, Rohit also scored over 4000 runs, making history as the second batter in history to do so (after Virat Kohli) across all three formats of the game. At the T20 World Cup, Rohit became the second Indian player after Kohli to reach 1000 runs.

Team India bowled brilliantly against Ireland, keeping their opponents to a low before they could score more than 100 runs. The Indian cricket team struggled early on when batting second. Virat Kohli fumbled after losing his wicket, and Rohit Sharma was forced to retire after being injured. Rohit and his squad eventually defeated Ireland in their first group-stage match at the ICC Men's T20 World Cup. The Men in Blue's next encounter is against their fierce rivals, Pakistan, at Nassau County Stadium in New York.
