India displayed a resilient performance to clinch victory over South Africa in the thrilling final of the 2024 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. Setting a target of 177, India's skipper Rohit Sharma’s early departure seemed to boost South Africa's morale. However, a determined Virat Kohli rose to the occasion with a stellar 76 off 59 balls. In response, South Africa fell short by 7 runs despite a valiant innings by Heinrich Klaasen. Player of the Match, Kohli's exceptional batting combined with Bumrah's impactful bowling sealed India's triumph, ending a long wait for the prestigious title.

Rohit Sharma expresses his feelings after winning the 2024 T20 World Cup

Following his leadership of India to victory against South Africa in the ICC T20 World Cup final, Rohit Sharma expressed his feelings on social media site X. He conveyed in the message his deep appreciation and sense of pride for steering the club to this historic victory. Reflecting on the path that led to this momentous accomplishment, Sharma underlined the perseverance, hard work, and teamwork that went into winning the championship. His message perfectly captured the exhilaration of the occasion and the tremendous sense of success he and the team felt. It highlighted the enormity of the win and the delight it provided to supporters and followers all around the world by showcasing Sharma's happiness and fulfilment in realising this dream of winning the T20 World Cup.

India won their second T20 World Cup championship by defeating South Africa by seven runs in a thrilling final at Barbados' Kensington Oval. India elected to bat first and produced a solid 176/7 in 20 overs. Axar Patel scored 47 off 31 balls to enable Virat Kohli lead the way with a brilliant 76 off 59. Though Anrich Nortje grabbed two crucial wickets, Keshav Maharaj stood out among the South African bowlers, claiming two wickets for 23 runs in three overs.

Reeza Hendricks was bowled by a brilliant delivery from Jasprit Bumrah in the second over, launching South Africa's chase into a tumultuous start. Heinrich Klaasen scored a stunning 52 off 27 balls, while Quinton de Kock batted 39 off 31 balls, but South Africa fell short of their mark, finishing at 169/8. With the ball, Arshdeep Singh and Jasprit Bumrah were outstanding, taking two wickets each and maintaining tight lines. Hardik Pandya's crucial 3/20 in his three overs secured India's victory.

The penultimate over was fraught with drama as Hardik Pandya defended 16 runs and claimed two crucial wickets, including that of Kagiso Rabada, whom Suryakumar Yadav superbly caught on the boundary. Pandya remained composed as South Africa needed eight off the last ball to win a historic match.

India's fielding and bowling were critical to their success, with significant contributions from all players. Highlights included Bumrah's delivery to Hendricks and Suryakumar's incredible catch in the final over. India has not won a T20 World Cup in 17 years, and their victory reflects their consistent performance throughout the tournament.
