'You’ll struggle to find a guy a player like him': Ricky Ponting pays tribute to retiring cricketer
As Australia bowed out of T20 World Cup 2024 in Super 8 after losses to India and Afghanistan, Ricky Ponting paid tribute to a departing Aussie cricketer.
Australia’s T20 World Cup 2024 campaign came to a premature close with losses to India and Afghanistan in the Super 8 meant that they failed to progress to the Semi Finals of the tournament.
As Australia’s tournament came to a close with that a legendary Australian cricketer bid adieu to the international stage forever. Aussie opener David Warner played his final international game against India and as their campaign comes to a close so does his career with the Kangaroos.
As David Warner retired from international cricket many tributes came his away and leading the tributes was none other than legendary Australian captain and cricketer Ricky Ponting.
Ricky Ponting pays tribute to David Warner
Ricky Ponting led the tributes for David Warner and said that the left arm opener had an unbelievable career across all three formats for the national side.
"(I) put my arm around him. I said, ‘...just take a moment tonight to sit back by yourself and reflect on what’s been an unbelievable career across all three formats for Australia.’," Ponting said during the ICC’s Digital Daily show.
RIcky Ponting further went on to say that Australia would struggle to find a guy who had as much success in all three formats of the game as David Warner.
“We know he retired in the summer from test cricket, but you’ll struggle to find a guy that’s had as big an impact on all three forms in Australian cricket than David Warner has," said Ricky Ponting.
Ponting didn’t only work with David Warner as his captain but also as his coach in the last two seasons of IPL with Delhi Capitals. Australia’s world cup winning captain said that Warner should be proud of the fantastic career he had.
"I’ve been able to play with him, I’ve been able to coach him in the IPL the last couple of years, and I really enjoy his company. So, he should be very proud of what he’s done," said Ponting.
David Warner represented Australia in 112 Tests, 161 ODIS, and 110 T20IS and won the lot of ODI World Cup, T20 World Cup, and World Test Championship.
