India displayed a resilient performance to clinch victory over South Africa in the thrilling final of the 2024 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup last week. Setting a target of 177, India's skipper Rohit Sharma’s early departure seemed to boost South Africa's morale. However, a determined Virat Kohli rose to the occasion with a stellar 76 off 59 balls. South African pacer Shaun Pollock gives his verdict on Suryakumar Yadav’s catch in the T20 World Cup final

India's triumph in the T20 World Cup final was much enhanced by Suryakumar Yadav's remarkable catch to eliminate David Miller. In the exciting game played on Saturday, June 29 at the Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados, India overcame South Africa by 7 runs. Suryakumar's amazing juggling catch was vital in ensuring the victory since 16 runs were needed off the last over.

David Miller missed timing his attempt at a full toss from Hardik Pandya down the ground. Remarkably calm, Suryakumar made the catch after precisely assessing the ball's path. Though first worried about whether Suryakumar's feet reached the boundary ropes, the third umpire finally decided in favour of the fielding team, therefore validating the catch. Celebrated South African fast bowler Shaun Pollock also confirmed the authenticity of the catch, appreciating Suryakumar's pivotal role in India's World Cup triumph. IN an interview Pollock heaped praise on SKY and said,

"The catch was fine. The cushion had moved, but that's in the course of the game. It had nothing to do with Surya. He didn't stand on the cushion. Brilliant bit of skill,"

Jay Shah, the Honorary Secretary of the BCCI, later presented Suryakumar Yadav with the 'Best Fielder' medal.

After suffering a 7-wicket loss in the final, Virat Kohli spearheaded the Indian attack with a 59-ball 76, and the team set their target of 176 runs. Axar Patel also contributed significantly before being run out. South Africa were unsuccessful despite Heinrich Klaasen scoring fifty off just 23 balls. Hardik Pandya, Arshdeep Singh, and Jasprit Bumrah remained composed in the vital stages, ensuring India's victory.
