New Zealand suffered a major heartbreak as their streak of not winning an ICC title continues, and their dusty old cabinet continues to wait. But they ended their T20 World Cup campaign with a bang against Papua New Guinea. The Blackcaps made a statement before heading back as Trent Bouled competed in his final T20 World Cup campaign. Apart from that, Lockie Ferguson emerged as the star of the hour after his immaculate spell left the PNG batters shell-shocked. Not only did NZ defeat them, but Ferguson managed to pick up a record-breaking spell before they capped off their World Cup campaign.

The Lockie Ferguson mayhem grips PNG! bowls 4 maidens, scalps 3 to become the first to do so in T20 WC history
In a rain-delayed affair at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Tarouba, The Kane Williamson-led New Zealand chose to bowl first against the associate nation Papua New Guinea. Lockie Ferguson came in to bowl in the fifth over and took a scalp as he opened his over. His pace attack turned out to be a trouble for Papua New Guinea. Lockie took out the PNG skipper Assad Vala and bowled multiple maiden overs during and after the Powerplay. He went on to dismiss Charles Amini and Chad Soper during his overs.
Fans couldn't help but have their jaws dropped after seeing Ferguson's insane spell with the ball.

It's interesting to note that two runs were scored off the third ball in Lockie Ferguson's fourth over, but they were leg-byes, thus they weren't included in Ferguson's final total. Ferguson became the second bowler in T20I history to accomplish this feat after Saad Bin Zafar of Canada. He was the first bowler to bowl four maidens in a T20I match. In the World Cup qualifier against Panama, he accomplished this accomplishment. But Ferguson has eclipsed Zafar's record of two wickets taken during his bowling session with three dismissals. He is also the first ever to do so in a T20 World Cup match

New Zealand ended their campaign with a consolation win with record-breaking figures, but in the end, it was a disappointing campaign for the Kiwis, who failed to showcase their potential and push themselves as a superior team to qualify for the Super 8 stage.
The T20 World Cup group stage will officially end after the West Indies vs Afghanistan match, and the Super 8 stage will officially commence after that.
