'He is going too early': Even Ravi Shastri has lost patience with Virat Kohli, criticises approach
According to Shastri, Virat Kohli is not being his usual self, yet has the liberty to spend time on the crease as Rohit Sharma has been batting aggressively.
While Team India has emerged as a formidable side in the T20 World Cup 2024, the dry run of Virat Kohli is too big to go unnoticed. Kohli has so far struggled to score runs in the T20 World Cup 2024, and the way he got out in the semi-final against England left fans and experts perplexed. Being present on the scene for more than one-and-a-half-decade, the fanatics and followers of the game are thoroughly accustomed to the way Kohli approaches his game. Hence, the way Virat Kohli has played and got out in the tournament has left fans and experts with no doubt that he is not playing his natural game. Ravi Shastri, who witnessed Kohli's dismissal during the India vs England match from the commentary box has laid out his views on Kohli's performance.
Virat Kohli endured tough run in T20 World Cup 2024
Throughout his career, Virat Kohli has played with the traditional "first steady then fast" approach. However, as an opener, he has looked ultra aggressor from the outset for India in the T20 World Cup 2024, and in the process has lost his wicket more often than not. In the semi-final match against England as well, Virat Kohli displayed his intent at the start. He got a six in the Reece Topley's over and then went for an uncharacteristic shot and paid the heavy price. The usually aplomb Virat Kohli was sitting silently in the dressing room following his dismissal when coach Rahul Dravid tried to console him.
Ravi Shastri on what's going on with Virat Kohli
The current head coach would have uplifted his spirits but the former head coach, Ravi Shastri, called a spade a spade. According to Shastri, Kohli is not being his usual self, yet has the liberty to spend time on the crease as Rohit Sharma has been batting aggressively on the other end.
"This is not his game. He is going too early for it, especially with Rohit Sharma playing aggressively at the other end. He can make up quite easily once he spends a little more time at the crease. He is more orthodox. And he is going to play in that fashion. When he tries to get out of his zone. He will get out in that fashion," Shastri told Star Sports.
Despite having a hard time in the middle, Virat Kohli has the backing from both coach and captain. Following the end of the India vs England T20 World Cup 2024 semi-final match, Rohit Sharma and Rahul Dravid have openly stated that they expect Virat Kohli to score big in the final against South Africa.
