Team India coaching staff clears the air on Shubman Gill's release, says it was pre-strategized
A lot of rumours ramped up when it was revealed that Shubman Gill and Avesh Khan had been released from the squad. The move came to light after India played out all their games in New York. The situation escalated when it was reported that Gill was released over disciplinary issues as he did not travel with the team and was engaged in his private projects while the other reserves were with the team during the matches. But India's batting coach put an end to all the rumours, saying that it was a pre-strategized move which was made before the team headed to the United States. The batting coach stressed that only two reserves would travel to the West Indies with the Indian team and that their return to India was planned from the beginning.
"This was a plan from the beginning. When we come to the US, four players will come together. After that two will be released and two will travel with us to West Indies. So, this plan was made from the beginning since the team was selected. This was planned so we are just following that,” Rathour said in the press conference.
