Afghanistan's squad includes top players like Rashid Khan, Mohammad Nabi, and Hazratullah Zazai, while India will be counting on stars like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Jasprit Bumrah. Sunil Gavaskar shows support to struggling Virat Kohli in the T20 World Cup
Even though Virat Kohli has not scored many runs in the group stage, Indian batting great Sunil Gavaskar feels there is no reason to be concerned about his performance. Though he acknowledged that Kohli has had some bad deliveries, the former captain of India stressed that the right-hander has a track record of doing well under pressure. Speaking onStar Sports, Sunil Gavaskar said:
"When you get three low scores, it does not mean he is not batting well. Sometimes you get good deliveries. On any other day, the ball would have gone wide or over the slip for a boundary, today it didn't. So, there is nothing to worry about. We have to show faith in him...believe that he is going to come good, sooner rather than later,"
“The biggest motivation for any player is to win matches, especially when you are playing for your country. He has done so well for India over the years and won so many games. I think he recognizes that. We are in the early phases of the tournament. There are Super 8s, semi-finals, and hopefully the final. All he needs to do is show patience and faith in himself, which I think he has plenty,”
The only T20I century by Kohli came in the opening match against Afghanistan in Dubai in 2022. India's most recent match against Afghanistan saw Kohli removed for a golden duck, but he still has a stellar record against them. Over four Twenty20 International innings, he has scored 201 runs at an average of 67.00 and a strike rate of 171.79.
