'You are not Hayden or Gilchrist': Sehwag gets critical on Shakib Al-Hasan's subpar outcome for BAN
Virender Sehwag criticizes veteran Shakib al-Hasan's performance for Bangladesh in the ongoing T20 World Cup, claiming that is ineffective for the side.
It was a heartbreaking defeat for Bangladesh as destiny did not side with them. During their clash at the Nassau County Stadium for the T20 World Cup, the Najmul Hossain Shanto-led side failed to chase down the given target and failed to capitalize. What was more haunting was that the veteran Shakib Al-Hasan, who has been struggling for a while, could not find his form back when the Bengal Tigers went against South Africa. After Bangladesh's outing in the T20 World Cup against the Proteas, Indian cricket legend Virender Sehwag offers his perspective on the all-rounder, and he isn't happy with the veteran's output.

Virender Sehwag dissatisfied with Shakib al-Hasan's output for BAN in T20 World Cup
During an appearance on Cricbuzz, former India cricket Virender Sehwag vented his frustration over the poor outcome of Bangladesh's veteran all-rounder Shakib Al-Hasan. The former cricketer said that Shakib needed to play a larger role since he is a team veteran but lost his wicket cheaply to a short ball. he then criticized the BAN star's approach, saying that he is not a Matthew Hayden or Adam Gilchrist-type batter.
"If he was included in the squad for experience, then we were not able to see it. At least spend some time at this wicket, it is not like you are not Hayden or Gilchrist who can play a pull shot of a short ball, you are just a player from Bangladesh.
"Play according to your standards. When you are not able to play hook or pull, so just play the strokes that you know," Sehwag said.

Shakib al-Hasan has been functioning in the middle order for Bangladesh in the T20 World Cup but has failed to contribute big numbers. In the group stage opener clash against Sri Lanka, he managed to score just right off 14 balls before losing his wicket. Even though they won against their arch-nemesis, they failed to perish against the Aiden Markram-led South African side.
Shakib needs a recount in form, and he will have two instances when Bangladesh will lock horns against the Netherlands and Nepal before the Super 8 stage arrives.
