Zaheer Khan Set to Succeed Gautam Gambhir at LSG, IPL Franchise Starts Talks with Veteran | Reports
Indian Cricket veteran Zaheer Khan could soon join the Lucknow Super Giants, and both parties are negotiating a mentorship role for the team.

The Lucknow Super Giants, one of the newest IPL franchises, aim to get back to their winning ways. Under Gautam Gambhir's mentorship, the franchise flourished as they went to the playoff stage. But after Gambhir left for KKR, things did not sit well, as the team could not produce a fruitful performance in 2024. Ahead of the IPL 2025 season, the franchise aims to bring a veteran into the mix who could guide them and bring the Gambhir-level success they used to have. One such name is Zaheer Khan, who could be joining the IPL franchise ahead of the 2025 season.

Zaheer Khan in Talks With the Lucknow Super Giants as Mentor Ahead of IPL 2025 Season
The Lucknow Super Giants have been functioning without Gautam Gambhir as he left the franchise after the IPL 2023 season to join the Kolkata Knight Riders. LSG did not do well in 2024, and to improve their performance reports from Cricbuzz mention that India veteran Zaheer Khan could be featured in the franchise, and negotiations have been made for the team's mentorship role.
"Zaheer is being considered for the role that Gambhir held and could also provide his expertise to the Lucknow Super Giants' bowlers. He will also be a key interlocutor, rather a go-between, for players and the management of the franchise, the owner of which is known to be very passionate about the game," the report mentioned.

Zaheer Khan has a lot of IPL expertise as he is a part of one of the most popular IPL franchises, the Mumbai Indians. He was the director of cricket operations till 2022. If Zaheer joins the Lucknow Super Giants, he will be joining the potent coaching staff, including Justin Langer, Jonty Rhodes, Lance Klusener, Adam Voges, and more. Morne Morkel is no more a part of the LSG staff as he has joined the Indian Cricket Team as the bowling coach. he will be a part of the coaching staff under head coach Gautam Gambhir.
Zaheer's expertise will be fruitful to the team, who could help bring back the old glory. The team will be put to test once the IPL 2025 season begins.
