Bayern Munich have threatened to take legal action against the Canadian Soccer Federation over an injury to Alphonso Davies. The left back injured himself during Canada's 2-1 win against the USA in the COBNCACAF Nations League earlier this month.

The defender tore his ACL and also sustained other damage, and the extent of his injury came to light on Wednesday. He underwent surgery and will now be on the sidelines for several weeks. Bayern alleged that the The Canadian Soccer Federation didn't take proper care of the player. In an interaction with Bild tabloid Bayern, chief executive Jan-Christian Dreesen said, “We’re demanding a full investigation into the events from Canada Soccer and expressly reserve the right to take legal action.

He further insisted that they sent the player on a 12-hour intercontinental flight without any proper medical care. “Sending a clearly injured player with a damaged knee on a 12-hour intercontinental flight without a thorough medical assessment is, in our view, grossly negligent and a clear breach of medical duty of care."

Bayern could now receive a hefty payout from FIFA as per the Club Protection Programme, which works as an insurance policy for any club if it loses a player during international duty. The amount could be calculated according to the player's wage, and a club could receive a maximum to the tune of €7.5 million (£6.2m).

Bayern are currently six points adrift of Bayer Leverkusen who are sitting in the second place in the Bundesliga. Davies has been a pivotal part of their plans, and it remains to be seen how they cope in his absence. They are also in contention for a place in the UEFA Champions League semifinal and will face Inter Milan in the quarterfinal.
