Champions League Matchday 3: Ajax vs Chelsea player ratings, result

It's going to be an exciting campaign for Chelsea not just on the domestic front but also on the European front. While the other England teams romped to high-scoring victories in their Champions League fixtures, Chelsea secured a gritty win over Ajax in Amsterdam. Chelsea manager Frank Lampard was tasked with breaking down an exciting Ajax side, and the Blues legend displayed his managerial mettle by making some game-changing substitutions in the second half of the Champions League game.

Chelsea might have started the game slow, but they did grow into it. Ajax, on the other hand, came flying out of the blocks, as they quickly clicked into their free-flowing style of football. Quincy Promes had a goal ruled out for offside by VAR just after the half-hour mark. Seeing his strike force struggling to make an impact on a tough night in Amsterdam, Frank Lampard decided to shake things up in the second half.

Lampard chose to bring on Christian Pulisic and Michy Batshuayi in place of Willian and Tammy Abraham after an hour of play. The move would go on to work wonders. Christian Pulisic managed to slide a cross through the Ajax box in the dying minutes of the game.
