Top of the Premier League and top of their Champions League group, it has been smooth sailing for Liverpool this week despite being made to work hard for their victories. Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool hosted Divock Origi's former club KRC Genk on Matchday 4 of the Champions League. The European champions emerged 2-1 winners against Genk, courtesy of goals from Georginio 'Gini' Wijnaldum and the in-form Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. As a result, Liverpool currently top their Champions League group with nine points.

After scoring a stunner in the Carabao Cup game against his former club Arsenal, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain said that he wasn't satisfied with his performance, despite netting a trademark long-distance strike against the Gunners. After the Champions League victory over Genk, Chamberlain went on to say that he believes he will continue to get better as the season carries on. Music to Jurgen Klopp and Gareth Southgate's ears, no doubt.

Liverpool took an early lead in the game when Gini Wijnaldum was on hand to convert a loose ball in Genk's box. The Dutch midfielder managed to slot the ball into the roof of the net to hand Liverpool the lead after 14 minutes. Just before half time, Mbwana Samata netted an equaliser for Genk. His goal means that Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker has still not kept a clean sheet this season, despite an impressive debut season for the Reds last time around. Just after the 50-minute mark, Mohamed Salah, who is enduring somewhat of a goal drought from open play in recent weeks, found the in-form Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. Chamberlain, who is apparently not a big fan of easy goals, rifled a low shot across Gaetan Coucke's goal to net Liverpool's second and final goal of the night. Here are the player ratings from the game.
