Mauricio Pochettino's Tottenham Hotspur head to the Rajko Mitic Stadium in Serbia to face Red Star Belgrade on Matchday 4 of the UEFA Champions League. Spurs head into the fixture after a double visit to Merseyside in the Premier League. A 2-1 defeat at Anfield was followed by a visit to Everton's Goodison Park, which ended in a 1-1 draw in the Premier League. Red Star Belgrade, meanwhile, are fresh off a double victory in the Serbian Super Liga. Tottenham are currently sitting second in their Champions League group on four points, with Red Star Belgrade in third with three points.
Champions League: Red Star Belgrade vs Tottenham preview
Off-colour and out of form - this has been the case for Tottenham so far this season. For the first time since Mauricio Pochettino took over, Tottenham find themselves in the bottom half of the Premier League. Their cause wasn't helped by a 1-1 draw against a struggling Everton side in the Premier League last weekend. Ever since their defeat to Liverpool in the Champions League final last season, Mauricio Pochettino's side have failed to string together a decent run of form. A 7-2 drubbing against Bayern Munich typified their struggles this season. Interestingly, just over a month after the 7-2 loss at home to Bayern Munich, Niko Kovac has been sacked by Bayern Munich this season, while Mauricio Pochettino continues to keep his job. So far.
Champions League: Tottenham vs Red Star Belgrade team news
Meanwhile, Tottenham captain Harry Kane returns to the side after sitting out the game against Everton because of a virus. His namesake Harry Winks and right-back Serge Aurier, however, have not travelled with the squad for the game against Red Star Belgrade. Heung-min Son is also expected to be back, after being left traumatised for his part in Andre Gomes' injury in the game against Everton last weekend. In an interview ahead of the game, Harry Kane went on to say that Tottenham would emulate England's example of dealing with any incident of racism that may arise during the game. England were forced to initiate the first-step of UEFA's three-stage protocol in dealing with racist incidents during England's Euro Qualifier against Bulgaria.
