Chelsea manager Frank Lampard said on Wednesday that he respects Ajax but does not fear them as the two sides will be meeting in their Group H clash of the UEFA Champions League in Amsterdam the very same day. Ajax have been in some incredible form this season in the Champions League, defeating both Valencia and Lille by a 3-0 scoreline as they go into Matchday 3 of the tournament. Meanwhile, Chelsea are currently three points behind Ajax with three points, registering a victory and a defeat. Chelsea will go into the game with confidence after their 1-0 win against Newcastle United in the Premier League on Saturday.

Lampard was asked whether he is afraid of Ajax during the pre-match conference and he stated that he respects Ajax because he saw them play last season. He talked about knowing that Ajax have changed slightly but he is aware of all the threats they pose. He stated that travelling anywhere in the Champions League is tough and the Dutch champions have won two matches convincingly. He added that it’s not the case of being afraid of them and he exuded confidence more for his team instead.

'Five wins mean nothing'
Lampard added that five wins mean nothing as this is a completely different test. After beating Newcastle, his team completely flicked a switch to concentrate on the game against Ajax. Chelsea will be going into the clash without Ross Barkley, N'Golo Kante, Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger. This season, Chelsea have been forced to rely on their youngsters in the team due to their transfer ban.
