NZ VS ENG: Morgan becomes 1st England batsman to score 2000 T20I runs

Eoin Morgan became the first English cricketer to score 2000 runs in T20 internationals. England’s limited over captain scored 17 in the fifth T20 international against New Zealand, which was reduced to 11 overs due to rains, to achieve the milestone. Morgan is only the seventh batsman to cross 2000 runs milestone in T20 Internationals. He has joined the likes of Indian duo Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, Australian David Warner, New Zealanders Brendon McCullum, and Martin Guptill and Pakistani batsman Shoaib Malik.

Currently, Rohit Sharma tops the table with 2537 runs while Kohli is a close second at 2450 runs. Among the English players, former cricketer Alex Hales is closest to Morgan with 1644 runs. Jos Butler is third with 1260 runs. The England- New Zealand match went to Super over before England clinched the five-match series. At the end of the game, Morgan claimed that he was surprised and delighted that the game was even played, given the weather condition in Auckland.

NZ vs ENG: Morgan praises Jordan

He added that both the teams played well in the 11 overs, but it was the Super Over that showcased the talents of Chris Jordan. Morgan said Jordan was extremely calm under pressure and delivered for his team. Batsman and wicketkeeper Jonny Bairstow was named the Man of the Match for his quickfire 47. New Zealand scored 146 for five in their 11 overs. But Bairstow’s knock along with the tail-enders contribution helped England achieve the mammoth target set for them.

Bairstow said that his experience of playing in T10 tournaments helped him. He added that he is looking forward to the Test matches now. The teams will play a two-match test series. England and New Zealand will play the first test from November 21 in Mount Maunganui, and the second will be played from November 29 in Hamilton.
