On this day, in 2001, David Beckham netted a marvellous last-minute free-kick against Greece to keep England's World Cup hopes alive which has been etched onto fans memories forever. FIFA World Cup Twitter handle shared a throwback video on Sunday of Backham's 93rd minute amazing kick that took England to the 2002 FIFA World Cup.

England drew 2-2 to Greece to reach 2002 World Cup

The Manchester United midfielder showcased his skills and proved why he was called the free-kick maestro with a perfect swerve to end Greece's journey in the World Cup. England was trailing 2-1 in injury time and hoped for a miracle when the skipper unleashed an unstoppable right-foot strike to find the back of the net. Beckham, who is known for his long-range free-kick skills, displayed a captivating show as he curled the ball perfectly to find the top right corner of Greece's goal. After Teddy Sheringham scored an equalizer for England, Greece put on its attacking play to claim another goal to make the scoreline 2-1. Beckham who had missed a free-kick 10 minutes earlier from a similar range, had to hit the spot this time and he did.

David Beckham played for some big clubs like Real Madrid, Manchester United, Inter Milan and LA Galaxy before retiring at Paris-Saint Germain. Hailed as one of the best midfielders, Beckham is famous for his crossing abilities, long-range free-kicks and assists. The midfielder scored over 120 goals in his 719 club appearances and around 17 goals in 115 international appearances. Beckham currently co-owns the Inter Miami FC which will begin playing in America's Major League Soccer (MLS) from 2020.
