File: Manchester City banned from next two Champions Leagues by UEFA

Manchester City have been banned from the Champions League for the next two seasons after UEFA found them to have committed "serious breaches" of their financial fair play regulations. They have also been fined 30million euros by UEFA's Club Financial Control Body.

The finding follows an investigation brought about by leaked emails and documents which appeared in the German magazine Der Spiegel.UEFA said City had broken their rules by "overstating its sponsorship revenue in its accounts and in the break-even information submitted to Uefa between 2012 and 2016", and added that the club "failed to cooperate in the investigation".

The club said in a statement they were "disappointed but not surprised" by the "prejudicial" decision and say they will appeal.City will be allowed to play in this season's competition where they face Real Madrid in the round of 16.
