Football transfer rumours: Man United target Inter's Lautaro Martinez!
Manchester United aim to bolster their attacking options with the signing of Inter Milan's striker Lautaro Martinez. The striker is also on Barcelona's radar.
Manchester United are prepared to make a huge offer for Inter Milan striker Lautaro Martinez in January 2020. According to media reports in Argentina, United will have to fight heavily against FC Barcelona for Martinez. United are desperate to sign a new striker in the January transfer window in order to provide support to Marcus Rashford upfront. The Old Trafford management have reportedly been told that they will need to pay €111m in order to sign the Inter striker.
Martinez is in spectacular form
Martínez has started the season in fantastic form, with seven goals and two assists in just 13 appearances, and has already scored at Camp Nou in the Champions League against Barcelona. He has partnered well with Romelu Lukaku, who joined Inter from United in the summer window.
United have also been heavily linked with a move for Juventus’ out of favour striker Mario Mandzukic, who is set to be available for a reasonable price in the upcoming window. However, Martinez seems to be the man whom United would be more keen on as has performed well, more so in the recent games and has scored four in his last four games, as well as providing two assists earlier in the campaign.
Martinez performed well in Copa America
It is not the first time that Martínez has attracted the interest of some of Europe's biggest clubs in the transfer market. Last summer, the 22-year-old was considered to replace Sergio Aguero at Manchester City after putting together a string of impressive displays for Argentina at the Copa America. Martínez scored two goals in the competition as the Argentina team reached the semi-finals, before being defeated by eventual winners Brazil.
Barcelona view Martínez as a long-term replacement for the ageing Luis Suarez, and it looks likely that they will be battling with United for him. Since selling Lukaku to Inter, United have lacked the consistent firepower that an out-and-out striker brings to a side and Martínez could be the man to breathe life back into their frontline.
