Legendary Swedish football coach and manager Sven-Goran Eriksson passed away at the age of 76 after a battle with terminal pancreatic cancer. Fondly remembered as ‘Svennis’ around the globe, Eriksson is considered to be one of the greatest football coaches in history and was also the first foreign coach to manage the English football team.
As Eriksson passed away, his former England players led the tributes as the entire football world mourned the loss of one of beautiful game's sharpest minds.
Football world mourns the loss of Sven-Goran Eriksson
Sven-Goran Eriksson took charge of England's Golden generation with the likes of David Beckham, Wayne Rooney, Steven Gerrard, Rio Ferdinand, Michael Owen among other legends and saw them through two World Cups in 2002 and 2006.
As Eriksson passed away the players he coached in England took to social media to share their tributes for the former boss.
“Rest in peace, Sven. A special man. Thanks for the memories and all your help and advice,” wrote Wayne Rooney on X.
Michael Owen said Sven was one of the very best and will be missed by everyone in the world of football.
Not just players, football clubs also came out in their tribute for Sven-Goran Eriksson.
AC Milan sent a poignant message saying, “You gave a lot to this world, and you will be missed. Bye, Mr Eriksson".
Sven-Goran Eriksson in his illustrious 42-year career managed 12 clubs and four national teams winning 18 trophies.
